Center's Description
Dorje Ling Buddhist Center represents the 700-year-old Jonang Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism under the guidance of Tulku Tashi Gyaltsan Rinpoche.

It is the first Jonangpa Buddhist Center located in the West. Jonang is the name of a retreat location in central Tibet, in today's District of Lhaze in the Shigaze Area. Since this tradition was developed from that place, followers of this school are called Jonangpa. It is one of the old schools of philosophy in Tibet.

The Jonangpa tradition is famous because of its strong historical connection dedicated to the instruction and practice of Kalachakra Tantra. The Jonang tradition differs from other Buddhist schools of thought due to its philosophical viewpoint on the nature of reality.

All Buddhists believe the basic nature of all phenomena is emptiness. In Tibetan Buddhism the viewpoint of emptiness is divided into two: self-emptiness and other-emptiness. Most Tibetan Buddhist scholars follow the viewpoint of self-emptiness. However, from Master Dolpopa to Taranatha to the very present day, the followers of Jonang hold the philosophical viewpoint of other-emptiness. Today in Tibet there are more than 50 Jonangpa monasteries throughout the country, supporting approximately 10,000 monks.

Comparatively the Nyimapa, Sakyapa, Kagyupa, and Gelugpa have more than 300-1000 monasteries each in Tibet. The Jonang masters are highly trained, both experientially and intellectually in the Kalachakra Tantric system. Dorje Ling Buddhist Center teaches the fundamental Buddhist way of living along with the profound deity-visualization meditation.
