Independent Meditation Center Guide

""Karma," he [Buddha] often said, "is intention": i.e., a movement of the mind that occurs each time we think, speak, or act. By being mindful of this process, we come to understand how intentions lead to habitual patterns of behavior, which in turn affect the quality of our experience."
Stephen Batchelor, Buddhism Without Beliefs.

Center's Description
The basis of spiritual practice at the Vermont Zen Center is zazen, or meditation. In addition to daily zazen, the Zen Center offers private instruction in Zen Buddhism, chanting services, study groups, ceremonies, all-day sittings, Zen talks by the teacher (teisho), and talks by senior members of the community (Sangha). Two- to seven-day sesshin retreats for the intensive practice of Zen are held periodically in Vermont as well as in Toronto, Canada at the Toronto Zen Centre, and Costa Rica at the Casa Zen in Santo Tomas.
